Tips For Being Successful in Remote Learning

  • Set an alarm for every morning, just as you did when attending regular classes. Online classes begin at 8:05, and you should be fully dressed and ready to be presentable on camera by then.
  • Eat breakfast before online classes begin.
  • Eliminate distractions from your work area at home, especially while attending a live video class. Turn off the TV and put away your phone (unless you are using it to login to a live class.) Consider using headphones or earbuds while in a live class to help you focus on the discussion.
  • Keep track of your assignments and due dates and times by using a planner or the “Upcoming” section of Google Classroom daily.
  • Continue working on assignments after live video class sessions have ended each day. You will still have work to complete when you are not in a live session.
  • Even though the only Monday live video class is Advisory, there will be work to do for ALL classes that day. Don’t forget to complete the Monday work for each class.
  • Communicate with your teachers by emailing and/or speaking up during a live session. Your teachers cannot help you unless they know you have a question.
  • Check your school email regularly for notifications from Google Classroom and emails from teachers.
  • There is a Google Classroom app for your phone. You are not required to use it, but it may be helpful. This is just another way to keep up with assignments and postings. Teachers encourage you to actually work on assignments using your Chromebook.
  • There is also a Google Meet app for your phone. This is an alternative way to join live video classes, if needed.

Communicating with Teachers

  • The best way to communicate with your teachers is via school email. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to set up an extra online appointment for live online help, be sure to email your teacher.
  • It is best to email your teachers within normal school hours. If you email your teachers outside 8:00am - 3:00pm, you may not get a response until the next day (or Monday if it is a weekend.)

Rules for Live Video Classes

  • Be on time to each session, with a charged Chromebook. Attendance will be taken within the first 5 minutes of the session.
  • Be prepared for each live session by completing assignments the teacher has posted prior to the session.
  • Have a pencil/pen and blank paper ready before each session, in case there is something you would like to jot down from the discussion. This may be important information you would like to review after your live class sessions have ended.
  • Join each session with your camera ON and your microphone MUTED. You should only unmute your microphone when it is your turn to speak.
  • Be attentive and ready to participate, as if you were in a regular classroom. Try not to have other distractions occuring at your home while you are in live video classes.
  • Do NOT record the session with your phone or any other device.
  • Do NOT use the chat feature to have side conversations with your classmates.
  • Please ASK questions if you are unclear about something. This is your classroom for the time being, and your teachers want you to get the most you can out of each session. We are here to help you.

Assignments/Grading Policy

  • All assignments and due dates and times will be posted by each teacher in Google Classroom and on TeacherEase.
  • Students should submit all assignments in Google Classroom by using the “Turn In” button within each assignment post. (This is NOT the same as “Sharing” an assignment with a teacher.)
  • If an assignment is not turned in by the set due date AND time, students have 24 hours to turn the assignment in late and receive 50% credit. Any assignment that is turned in after the 24 hour late period will receive a 0%.
  • Students should check Google Classroom daily for graded assignments and teacher feedback. Grades may also be checked by students and parents online anytime through TeacherEase.

Absences

  • Attendance will be taken within the first 5 minutes of each live video class.
  • Students who cannot attend a live video class are still responsible for the work that day.
  • It is the student’s responsibility to locate the work in the appropriate location in each Google Classroom and to contact the teacher if help is needed.
  • If students are missing multiple days in a row they will be contacted by Counselors, Administrators, and/or the Attendance Office.

Chromebook Policy/Rules

  • Take excellent care of your Chromebook. It is a very important tool for your learning during this time.
  • Keep the Chromebook in its case, and carry it firmly with two hands. If it is open, carry it by the bottom, not the screen.
  • No banging, slamming, hitting, or tossing aside the Chromebook.
  • Charge the Chromebook every night, so it is ready for the next day of use.
  • Chromebooks are to be used for academic purposes only.
